Editorial policy
How a LoseSize tool is built
- The formula or dataset is taken from a primary source (peer-reviewed paper, CDC/NIH/WHO guidance, or government database) — never from another calculator.
- The implementation is written against a written specification that cites that source, and the citation is displayed on the tool page itself.
- Safety guardrails (calorie floors, safe-rate limits, "talk to a professional" triggers) are coded into the tool's logic, not just its footer.
- Edge cases — pregnancy, youth, athletic builds — are flagged in the tool rather than silently returning a number.
Reviews & updates
Each tool page's methodology section is re-checked against its source when the tool is updated, and at minimum annually. Nutrition data reflects the USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts databases as of the last site build.
Corrections
Found a number that's off? Email hello@losesize.com with the tool name and the source you trust. Verified corrections ship with a note.
Advertising & affiliate disclosure
LoseSize may run advertising or affiliate links to cover hosting. Any page that carries them is marked. Advertising is never a variable in what a tool computes — formulas and guardrails are chosen before monetization is ever considered, and advertisers get no say in either. Health claims in ads are rejected.
What we won't build
- Tools that diagnose conditions or prescribe treatments.
- "Thinspiration" features, or any framing that shames body size.
- Tools whose main appeal is an unsafe outcome (crash diets, extreme deficits).
