Frequently asked questions
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening value calculated from your weight and height. According to the CDC, it is an inexpensive and easy screening method for weight categories, but it does not diagnose body fatness or overall health.
What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults, the CDC considers a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 a healthy range. BMI below 18.5 is underweight, 25.0–29.9 is overweight, and 30.0 or above falls in the obesity range (classes I–III).
Does BMI work for everyone?
No. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat and may misclassify athletes, older adults, and pregnant people. The CDC notes it should be used as one screening tool alongside other measurements — which is why LoseSize also offers waist, body-fat, and measurement tools.
